Sketch
A top-down architectural garden design plan, hand-drawn watercolor and colored pencil over fine ink linework on white paper, in the style of a professional landscape designer's presentation drawing. Vertical portrait composition, aspect ratio 3:4. Soft watercolor washes with delicate pencil texture, loose painterly brushwork, visible paper grain. German handwritten all-caps labels in black ink with thin leader lines pointing to plants. White paper background, no digital effects.

**Layout:** A rectangular garden plot viewed from directly above. The upper portion contains a wooden garden shed (Hütte). The lower portion is a paved stone terrace with cellar stairs. The left edge is the sunny side (Sonnenseite) with a planting bed against a gravel strip along the fence. The right edge is the half-shade side (Halbschatten) with mostly existing shrubs. The center is open green lawn.

**Top of the plan — the shed:** A rectangular wooden shed in warm light-brown plank tones, taking up roughly the upper-right two-thirds of the plan, labeled "DIE HÜTTE" in handwritten caps inside it. Above the plan border, two text arrows point downward: "DIE SONNENSEITE" pointing into the left side, "DER HALBSCHATTEN" pointing into the right side.

**Just below the shed — the Azalea bed:** A long, gracefully curving planting bed begins at the bottom-left corner of the shed and sweeps downward and to the right, eventually merging into the right-side shade bed. The bed is filled with pink-flowering Azaleas rendered as a soft cloud of small pink blossom clusters over green foliage. Labeled "AZALEA" with the subtitle "VORHANDENE PFLANZE".

**Left side (Sonnenseite) — sunny planting bed running top to bottom along the left fence:**

- A narrow gravel strip (Kieselstein) of light beige-grey small pebbles runs along the inside of the left fence, labeled "KIESELSTEIN" at the top.
- Acer palmatum — small Japanese maple with feathery crimson-red foliage. Label: "ACER".
- A tight cluster of three culinary herbs side by side: Salbei (sage, silvery-green rounded mound), Rosmarin (rosemary, narrow upright dark green), Tymian (thyme, low spreading green). Labels stacked on the left margin: "DER SALBEI", "ROSMARIN", "TYMIAN".
- Malus / Apfelbaum — medium round apple tree with green leaves and small visible red apples. Label: "MALUS (APFEL)".
- Lavendel — a short row of lavender plants with purple flower spikes and silvery-green foliage. Label: "LAVENDEL".
- Photinia × fraseri — rounded shrub with bronze-red new growth tipping dark green foliage. Label: "PHOTINIA SER.".
- Corner specimen — the southernmost plant of the sun-side bed, sitting **above** the terrace as a solitary specimen. One of three options to choose at planting time: Thuja occidentalis (columnar deep-green evergreen), Taxus baccata (rounded dark-green yew), or Nandina domestica (delicate compound foliage with red winter berries). Marked with a small star symbol indicating specimen status. Label stack on the left margin reads vertically: "THUJA OCC. / ODER / TAXUS BAC. / ODER / NANDINA DOMESTICA".

The corner specimen sits **above** the terrace as the bottom plant of the sun-side bed — never beside the terrace. The terrace itself reaches the left fence directly: there must be **no plants in the gap between the left fence and the left edge of the terrace**, because there is no gap.

**Right side (Halbschatten) — half-shade planting bed running top to bottom:**

- Black-grey decorative pebbles (Kieselstein schwarz-grau) cover the ground between plants.
- Thuja occidentalis — narrow columnar evergreen in deep green, marked with a small star symbol indicating specimen. Label: "THUJA OCC.".
- White Rhododendron — rounded shrub with clusters of white blossoms. Label: "RHODODENDRON WEISS".
- Cupressus leylandii (existing) — **one** tall narrow conifer, a single plant only. Label: "VORHANDENE PFLANZE CUPR. LEYLANDII". This appears exactly **once**.
- Hydrangea cluster (upper) — small group of hydrangea shrubs with blue and pink mophead flowers, positioned **above** the right-side Acer. Label: "HYDRANGEA".
- Acer palmatum (specimen) — medium Japanese maple with crimson-red foliage, marked with a small star symbol. Label: "ACER".
- Hydrangea cluster (lower) — second group of hydrangea shrubs, positioned **below** the right-side Acer. Label: "HYDRANGEA".
- Taxus baccata (existing) — rounded dark-green yew shrub. Label: "VORHANDENE PFLANZE TAXUS BAC.".
- One additional unspecified existing plant — rounded green shrub. Label: "VORHANDENE PFLANZE".

The shade-side bed must contain exactly **two** hydrangea clusters (one above, one below the Acer), exactly **one** Cupressus leylandii, and exactly **two** existing-plant labels at the bottom-right (Taxus baccata plus one unspecified).

**Bottom of the plan — terrace and stairs:**

The paved terrace (Die Terrasse) is rendered in light beige natural flagstones with an irregular jointing pattern. The terrace **extends fully to the left fence** — its left edge touches the left boundary directly with no gap and no plants between fence and terrace. Label: "DIE TERRASSE" in caps, centered on the main open part of the terrace.

The cellar stairs (Die Treppe) are a **linear vertical rectangle** — clearly taller than wide — positioned on the right portion of the terrace. The long axis runs north-south so the stair flight is **oriented to face the hut** at the top of the plan. Visible horizontal stair treads cross the rectangle as parallel lines. A person descending these stairs walks toward the hut. Label: "DIE TREPPE" with a small arrow pointing to the stairs from below.

**Color and rendering notes:** Loose painterly watercolor washes over delicate pencil under-drawing. Crimson reds for the two Acer trees and Photinia tips. Various greens — silvery-green for the herbs and lavender foliage, deep blue-green for the conifers (Thuja, Cupressus, Taxus), fresh light green for the lawn. Lavender purple. Soft pink for Azaleas and accent pink in the Hydrangeas. White Rhododendron blooms. Warm earth tones for the shed, terrace pavers, and gravel. Plenty of white paper showing through. No gradients, no glow, no 3D rendering, no perspective — strictly top-down plan view.

## Negative prompt (for tools that support it)

duplicate Cupressus leylandii, two cypresses, three "vorhandene pflanze" labels at bottom right, two stacked plants between fence and terrace at bottom-left, plants in the gap between left fence and left edge of terrace, missing corner specimen at bottom of sun-side bed, horizontal stairs jutting below terrace, stairs perpendicular to hut, extra columnar tree between herbs and apple tree, fence post in middle of left bed, missing Hydrangea cluster, only one hydrangea cluster, gap between terrace and left fence, photorealistic rendering, 3D, isometric, perspective view, watermark, signature, AI artifacts, blurry text

---

## Correction checklist vs. previous render

| What the previous render got wrong | What this prompt fixes |
|---|---|
| Cupressus leylandii labeled twice | Exactly one Cupressus leylandii |
| Only one Hydrangea cluster on the right | Two clusters — one above, one below the right-side Acer |
| Three "Vorhandene Pflanze" labels at bottom-right | Exactly two: Taxus baccata and one unspecified |
| Two duplicate plants stacked between fence and terrace at bottom-left | Single corner specimen above the terrace; terrace touches the fence directly |
| Stairs drawn horizontal, jutting below terrace | Vertical linear rectangle, oriented to face the hut |
| Terrace stops short of the left fence | Terrace extends fully to the left fence |
| Extra columnar element between herbs and apple tree | Clean transition, nothing extra |
| Azalea bed shown as a straight contained band | Curved bed sweeping from below the shed |

---

## Tool-specific tweaks

**Midjourney v6+:** Append `--ar 3:4 --style raw --stylize 100`. Convert the negative prompt to `--no duplicate cypress, perspective view, 3D rendering, stacked plants between fence and terrace, horizontal stairs`.

**DALL-E 3 / GPT-Image / Imagen 3+:** Paste the Ready-to-use prompt verbatim. These models follow long detailed prompts well. If output drifts, regenerate with the correction checklist appended at the end as a list of explicit "must" statements.

**Stable Diffusion / Flux:** Shorten the natural-language prompt to focus on style keywords + the layout overview paragraph. Put the full plant list and the negative prompt in their respective fields. Consider using ControlNet with the original sketch as a structural guide.

**Image-edit tools (Nano Banana, Gemini image edit, ChatGPT image-edit):** Attach the original hand-drawn sketch as the input image, and shorten the prompt to: *"Render this garden design sketch as a hand-drawn watercolor and colored pencil illustration on white paper, German handwritten labels preserved, applying these corrections to the layout: [paste the 8-row correction checklist]."* This gives you the layout fidelity of the sketch with the watercolor styling.

---

## Iteration tips

If the first generation still gets something wrong, regenerate with the specific correction emphasized at the start of the prompt. Models tend to weight earlier text more heavily. For example, if the second Hydrangea cluster keeps disappearing, lead with: *"A top-down watercolor garden plan featuring two distinct Hydrangea clusters bookending a central red Japanese maple on the right side of the garden..."* and continue with the rest of the prompt.

If labels come out garbled (common with most image generators), generate the illustration without text first, then add labels in a vector editor (Figma, Illustrator, Affinity Designer) afterward — this is the standard workflow for presentation-quality plans.
